Certificated and Classified Management and Confidential Employees Participate in Plan to Help Balance the Budget
Certificated Management, Classified Management, and Confidential employees (162.50 FTE) will participate in a plan to help the District balance its multi-year budget. Effective July 1, 2010, these individuals will work a seven (7) day reduced work year and accept a three percent (3%) reduction in their annual salary. They will participate in this plan for the next two fiscal years – July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2012 – and will save the District approximately $1,050,000. The Board of Education (“Board”) took action to approve this plan at its April 1, 2010 regular meeting.
At its regular meeting on March 18, 2010, the Board took action to amend the contracts of all Assistant Superintendents (5.00 FTE). This action will reflect a seven (7) day reduced work year and corresponding three percent (3%) reduction in the annual salary for these administrators. Likewise, this plan is effective for the next two fiscal years and will save the District approximately $125,000.
Effective July 1, 2012, the work year and the annual salary for each certificated and classified management and confidential employee shall revert to the work year and the annual salary for that position in effect June 30, 2010.
At this point, 99.41% of all certificated and classified management and confidential employees will participate in the reduced work year and salary reduction plan.

Schools Focus on Attendance Goal:
Students and Teachers are Meeting the Challenge
Students at 9 schools are meeting or exceeding the goal of 97% attendance through May 14. Those schools in order of achievement are: Hidden Trails ES, Canyon Hills JHS, Rhodes ES, Country Springs ES, Butterfield ES, Wickman ES, Rolling Ridge ES, Chaparral ES and Eagle Canyon ES.
This means two important points. One, students are in the classrooms, engaged in daily activities that promote learning. It is obvious - regular student attendance is critical for students to master the various subject areas: reading/language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, etc. Two, the District’s budget is dependent on student attendance. Very simply – the District receives funding from the state based upon the Average Daily Attendance of students. The higher our ADA, the more income the District receives. This in turn allows the District to fund instructional and extra-curricular programs for students and to fund all other portions of the overall budget.
Teachers at 2 schools are meeting or exceeding the 97% attendance goal. The schools meeting the goal in order of achievement are: Wickman ES and Oak Ridge ES.
Congratulations to all of our students and teachers who are working to help the District reach its goal of 97% attendance for the 2009-10 school year!
